THE BARONY of ASHBURTON of ASHBURTON, CO. DEVON (1835) [United Kingdom]

<p>The Barony of Ashburton of Ashburton, Devon, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom,  was created on 10 April 1835 for Alexander Baring, son of Sir Francis Baring, 1st Baronet Baring of  Larkbeer.</p>

<p>This was the second creation of this Barony - the first was in 1782, in the Peerage of England, for the Dunning family. This title became extinct in 1823 on the death of the second Baron, Richard Barr&eacute; Dunning, who was coincidentally the first cousin of Alexander Baring, 1st Baron Ashburton in the 1835 creation. Sir Richard Dunning's mother (and the wife of Sir John Dunning, 1st Baron Ashburton) was Elizabeth Baring, sister of Sir Francis Baring.</p>
