THE BARONY OF BALRATH (1718)
The Barony of Balrath was created for the naval commander Matthew Aylmer, who was the second son of Sir Christopher Aylmer, 1st Bart. Aylmer of Balrath. When Sir Matthew Aylmer, 6th Bart. Aylmer of Balrath, died in April 1776, without issue, the Baronetcy passed to his second cousin, Sir Henry Aylmer, 4th Lord Aylmer, Baron of Balrath. The two titles have been passed down in tandem ever since this time.
