<p>Descended from Matthew BLOOD-SMYTH and Dorothea Julia INGRAM.</p>

<p>Matthew was a 4th-great-grandson of Edmund Blood of Makeney; for his ancesry, see 
<a href="blood_ballykilty.shtml#blood-smyth_1">The Bloods of Ballykilty</a>.</p>

<p>For Dorothea's ancestors, see

<p>Dorothea's parents were Jacques Ingram and Mary Smyth; Mary was niece to Dr. Smyth, Archbishop of Dublin. The Archbishop left money to the family, but Dorothea Julia's inheritance was contingent on her keeping the name "Smyth". In Ireland, this branch of the family became the Blood-Smyths.</p>

<p>The name became Blood-Smyth by Royal License: "The King has been graciously pleased to grant unto Matthew Blood of Castle Fergus etc. his Royal license and authority that he and his issue may take and use the surname and bear the arms of Smyth instead of those of Blood in compliance with the Will of William Smyth, late of the City of Dublin."</p>

 who married <a href="blood_applevale3.shtml#blood_181" class="two">
 Marianne Charlotte BLOOD</a><br />
 and emigrated to Australia, and who was my Great 
 Great Grandfather.<br />
 Matthew Henry reversed the order of his surname, saying that 
 "he was born a Blood, and a Blood he would die...".<br />
 Dr. Matthew Henry Blood was also the first Mayor of Kapunda, and he and his wife, 
 along with several of their descendants, are buried in the Kapunda Pioneer
 Cemetery.<br />
