Descended from William Blood and Elizabeth Bindon.

William was a 4th-great-grandson of Edmund Blood of Makeney; for his ancestry, see The Bloods of Roxton.

According to the Etymology of British Place-names, the name 'Cranagher' means 'a dense part of a forest'. Cranagher no longer remains in the Blood family; it was sold in 1905.

         William also has been listed as the father of one child, born out of wedlock, to an Elizabeth (last name unknown). Some sources show this child as (Maj.) John Blood, born 19 Sep 1837, in Co. Cork, who served in the 68th Durham Light Infantry in the Crimea. This, however, seems to be in error, as the same John Blood is also in places shown as the son of John Aylward Blood and Frederica Gamble; John Aylward Blood was Lt-Col in the 68th Durham Light Infantry, and it seems more likely that Maj Blood was his son, and not that of William Bindon Blood and an unknown mistress of his.
