The Barony of Cromer of Cromer, Norfolk, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, was created on 20 June 1892 for Evelyn Baring. Sir Evelyn was created Viscount Cromer on 25 Jan 1899. On 3 August 1901, Sir Evelyn was created 1st Earl of Cromer, and also Viscount Errington of Hexham, Northumberland. The title Baron Cromer, Viscount Cromer and Viscount Errington remain subsidiary titles to the Earldom.
Sir Evelyn was a grandson of Sir Francis Baring, 1st Bt. Baring of Larkbeer and founder of Barings Bank. Sir Evelyn was also the nephew of Sir Alexander Baring, 1st Baron Ashburton, the second cousin of Sir Francis Thornhill Baring, 1st Baron Northbrook, the younger brother of Sir Edward Baring, 1st Baron Revelstoke of Membland, and the father of Sir Evelyn Baring, 1st Baron Howick of Glendale.
