<p>The Earldom of Normanton was created in 1806 for Charles Agar, Archbishop of Dublin. Sir Charles had already been created Baron Somerton in 1795 and Viscount Somerton in 1800.  In 1873 the third Earl of Normanton, Sir James Charles Herbert Welbore Ellis Agar, was created Baron Somerton of Somerley, Co. Southampton, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.  Today the Viscountcy and the Baronies remain subsidiary titles to the Earldom. The <a href="clifden.shtml#mendip">Barony of Mendip</a> is now also a subsidiary title to the Earldom.</p>
