The Barony of Revelstoke of Membland, Devon, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, was created on 30 June 1885 for Edward Charles Baring, who was the head of the family firm, Barings Bank.

Sir Edward was a grandson of Sir Francis Baring, 1st Bt. Baring of Larkbeer and founder of Barings Bank. Sir Edward was also the nephew of Sir Alexander Baring, 1st Baron Ashburton the second cousin of Sir Francis Thornhill Baring, 1st Baron Northbrook, the elder brother of Sir Evelyn Baring, 1st Earl of Cromer and the uncle of Sir Evelyn Baring, 1st Baron Howick of Glendale.
